Missoula County Search & Rescue

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, members of Missoula County Search and Rescue are on call to assist the county’s residents and visitors who find themselves in need.  The unit also answers calls for mutual aid from neighboring counties.

 

Search Operations

Missoula County SAR responds to search and rescue operations in a multitude of settings.

K9 Teams

Missoula County SAR K9 teams are nationally certified in SAR Trailing, Tracking, and Human Remains Detection.  Teams also train in Article/Evidence search and Avalanche recovery.

Water Rescue Operations

Members train for swiftwater and ice rescue as well as underwater search and recovery. Many members have Swiftwater Rescue Technician certifications.

Ropes

The Missoula County SAR Ropes Team provides access and evacuation of patients in the backcountry via both high and low angle rope rescue techniques.

Winter and Avalanche Operations

Members train extensively in the operation of snowmobiles and avalanche rescue response. MCSAR coordinates efforts with Snowbowl Ski Patrol in the search for lost out-of-bounds skiers and snowboarders.

Medical

Missoula County SAR is a State of Montana licensed Basic LifeSupport/Non-Transport agency. The team is made up of Wilderness First responders, Wilderness EMTs, EMTs, Advanced EMTs and Paramedics.

Missoula County SAR responds to neighboring counties to assist in extended SAR operations.
